What in The World is EDDM?
It’s really a simple question, but one that many business owners have never heard of. EDDM is “Every Door Direct Mail“. It is a direct mail advertising option, courtesy of the US Postal Service. We’re sure you have noticed that ads are filling up our social media. But what is happening to our mailbox? I opened my mailbox today and the only thing in there was the grocery ad flier. Why are grocery stores still using the US Postal Service to send out their circulars? Could it be because there is not as much fighting for your attention? Could it be they feel it is a less expensive or more direct method to get your message out? It could be all these things and more.

Every Door Direct Mail: An Educated Choice
EDDM is not a difficult process, but it does require some effort. To begin the process, we recommend reviewing the EDDM Fact Sheet. This will help ensure that your mailer design meets the specifications required. Another useful item is the EDDM Mapping tool. This will allow you to target specific zip code areas. You know, the places where your customers work or live. Here at The Beacon Center, we opted to mail to our own business zip code. We decided to target other businesses who might need to outsource their meeting space.
Our mailing went out as of the writing of this article. Be sure to follow us and check back to see the progress of our new experiment in advertising. No matter what method you decide on to advertise, do your homework. Educate yourself on the process and the pros and cons of direct mailing.
