Kid-Friendly Wedding Receptions

How To Have Kid-Friendly Event

In order to have a Kid-Friendly reception or any kind of event, you must first think like a kid. Remember back when you were 11 or 12? How about even earlier at 7 or 8? Did dancing to the Oldies, wrapped mints, and shrimp cocktails fire up your imagination? Were you just itching to catch a bunch of flowers at 13? My guess is most of the answers would be a resounding NO! Have no doubt, there are plenty of 20 & 30 somethings who feel the same way. Unless your invitations have an age limit, your party will see more than it’s share of “younguns”  If we ever hope to marry off our kids and get them out of the house, we need to make weddings and receptions ALOT more fun….for them.

Think Of The Children

Ok, so the last thing most of us worry about at our wedding reception is how engaging and entertained the kids in our lives are. Far more important things to do, right? Not entirely. Think about 10 or 12 bored children, preteens or teens hanging out in a room full of fancy decorations, expensive food, and suits. All of them with nothing to do but listen to romantic words and music they can’t stand. What would YOU do if you were them?  Maybe now you are beginning to realize a very good reason to be kid-friendly at your party. Give them something to keep them OCCUPIED. It is the kind thing to do for those poor kids and will result in a much more enjoyable event for their parents and your guests.  [tweet_box design=”default” float=”right” width=”40%”]In order to have a Kid-Friendly reception or any kind of event, you must first think like a kid.[/tweet_box]

Plan A Little Plan For Them

There really is no blueprint for a successful reception or party. It is completely up to you how you accommodate the less patient and experienced party goers amongst us. Kid-Friendly is an all-inclusive term. It truly is anything a child or teen might enjoy. As a bit of a child myself, I offer you a shortlist of ideas:

  •  Serve Kid-Friendly foods, along with the salad and lasagna. Not everyone WANTS to choose chicken or beef.
  •  Set up a side room with a couple of rented X-Box Consoles….they will never leave that room.
  •  Seek counsel from a kid that you know. They ARE experts after all.
  •  Last but not least……CANDY. Candy is the most kid-friendly thing on the planet…after cake and ice cream.

Here at The Beacon Center, we have seen all types of receptions, parties, and celebrations. We can confirm that keeping the kids occupied results in a much better experience for everyone. Kid-Friendly events don’t have to be tough or expensive, just thoughtful and appropriate. If you are looking for a clean, professional, yet kid-friendly space for your next event, just visit our website and book a tour. If you have kids, bring them along…
