Life After The Retirement Party

Life after the retirement party photoMy Retirement Party Was A Blast – Now What?

You threw a great Retirement Party. Lot’s of friends and family in attendance. Good food, good music and lots of funny stories about work and personal life. Someone even gave you a new fishing rod as a retirement gift. Even your spouse had fun, though they are more worried about you actually being home all the time now. Yep, your retirement party was a great event….now what do you do.

I Hadn’t Really Thought About It…

It may be that you put more thought into your retirement party than your actual retirement. Sure, you have dreamed for years of all the things you would do when you were free. Now, you are actually faced with needing a plan. Do you still work part-time at something you really enjoy? Do you put that fishing pole to use every day? Will your spouse tolerate your constant presence? Have you really thought about your retirement in detail? Do you have a plan to fill all those hours that used to be filled with work?

My spouse asked me just that question…What will you do every day? After a few seconds of thought, I realized I had not considered that EVERY day would be like a vacation day. Sleeping in every day was the only sure thing I could think of. I need a plan.  [tweet_box design=”default” float=”right” width=”40%”]What will you do every day?[/tweet_box]

Get Out Of The House

The only concrete plan I have for my retirement is to get out of the house. Do something, anything. I do have some ideas, here are the top 3 I came up with as I ponder my non-work future:

#1. Sleep In – What? You thought I was kidding?

#2. Volunteer To Play – With Dogs & Cats at the Animal Shelter. They will be a lot easier to get along with than co-workers.

#3. Fish Once A Week – What can I say – I am a person of simple desires.

Seriously, after the Retirement Party, it is all up to you. Just be sure you start planning for your retirement early… especially the Retirement Party.
